It is a huge blow for Mikel Arteta ahead of the Premier League's return on Saturday. Konsa, who arrived from Aston Villa in the summer in a deal worth £55million, has impressed so far this season in an Arsenal shirt, partnering Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of defence.

England said in a statement: "Ezri Konsa and Alex Scott have both been ruled out of tomorrow night's game vs Czechia. The pair have returned to their respective clubs for further assessment."

Konsa did miss England training last week due to a slight muscle injury, but played the full 90 minutes against Croatia.

The 28-year-old has already made six appearances for Arsenal this season, with four of those starts. William Saliba is continuing his recovery from a back injury, while Cristhian Mosquera has missed the last three Premier League games due to a hamstring injury.

Ben White missed the 3-0 defeat to Brighton and was left out of the England squad by Thomas Tuchel due to injury, but the right-back, along with Mosquera and Piero Hincapie, have returned to training and are in contention to feature against Leeds on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Arteta is sweating on the fitness of Christos Tzolis and Kai Havertz. The winger was taken off just 18 minutes into Greece's 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in the Nations League, with a suspected hamstring injury. Havertz, meanwhile, was forced off in the first half of Germany’s Nations League clash with the Netherlands and has returned to the Gunners for further tests.

Declan Rice, who pulled out of the England squad due to load management, should be fit for the return to domestic action..
