Everton winger Brennan Johnson was in action for Wales last night.
Brennan Johnson started on the right flank for Wales, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Denmark at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Everton attacker played 76 minutes before Craig Bellamy substituted him off for Leicester City’s Wes Burns.
With that said, we’ve had a look at what Wales’ national media had to say about Johnson’s performance.
Everton’s Brennan Johnson failed to make an impact vs Denmark
Johnson has played as a number 10 for Wales during this international break, but Bellamy decided to put him back on the wing last night.
The 25-year-old put in a decent shift but failed to create a moment of quality, and Wales Online journalist Tom Coleman gave him a 6/10 match rating.
“Got into some good positions at times and had a couple of sights at goal, but couldn’t quite find the invention needed as the game wore on. Subbed.”
Ben Thomas of the Y Clwb Pêl-droed was much more complimentary of his display and awarded him a 7/10 rating.
“His best performance in a Wales shirt for some time, looking confident going forward while also putting in the work defensively. He was replaced shortly after the visitors opened the scoring.”
Johnson will now return to Everton’s Finch Farm training ground this week ahead of the Premier League clash against newly-promoted Hull City on Sunday afternoon.
Given the number of minutes he’s played during the international break, it wouldn’t at all be surprising if he’s benched for Tyler Dibling, who has looked a completely different player this term.
Dibling has been away with England’s under-21s but he’s only made two cameo appearances from the bench, so he’ll be pretty fresh.
Many are expecting the former Southampton talisman to have his breakout season this year.
