The return of club football is on the horizon and for Chelsea, a Premier League clash with Bournemouth awaits.

Xabi Alonso's side are winless in their last three top-flight matches, losing to Arsenal and Brentford, with a draw with Hull City sandwiched in between.

As for Marco Rose's Bournemouth side, three draws and two defeats from their opening five games sees them just above the relegation zone at this early stage. However, there is a widespread feeling that the Cherries are a lot better than their 17th-place position suggests.

After a three-week international break, both sets of supporters will be desperate to find out the latest in terms of injury news. With that being said, football.london rounds up everything we know on that front.

Chelsea injury news

Joao Pedro pulled out of the Brazil squad for the international break due to a knee injury. Chelsea's No.9 has not been pictured in any of the first-team training sessions over the break and we await to hear an update from Alonso later in the week.

Similar can be said regarding Cole Palmer. The 23-year-old was selected by Thomas Tuchel for England duty but due to a muscular issue, Palmer withdrew from the squad and has instead been doing some rehabilitation work in the Caribbean with a specialist fitness coach, according to Chelsea sources.

Reece James, meanwhile, has been working on his recovery from a hamstring injury during the international break. The severity of the Chelsea captain's latest problem remains undisclosed but we should hear some form of an update from Alonso later in the week in his pre-Bournemouth press conference.

Alonso will be hoping to call upon Moises Caicedo for the visit of the Cherries. The Ecuadorian midfielder has played just 14 minutes this season due to a persistent calf issue but is nearing his return to action. Caicedo has been working hard on his recovery behind the scenes during the ongoing international break.

Emmanuel Emegha is yet to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea since signing from Strasbourg in the summer. The Dutch striker has been struggling with a hamstring injury but there is some hope he can return to the Blues squad for this weekend's clash with Bournemouth, given Alonso was hopeful he would be included against Brentford before the break.

‌

Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens was forced to withdraw from England Under-21s duty because of an ankle problem. Gittens was pictured on crutches following what was described as a "kick on his ankle" and returned to Cobham for further tests on the injury.

Marco Palestra, meanwhile, is expected to return to the Chelsea squad on Saturday after missing the start of the season due to a quad injury. The Italian defender, signed for £47million in the summer, has been pictured in first-team training over the past few weeks.

Bournemouth injury news

There was a massive blow for Bournemouth on Monday morning when news broke that Alex Scott has withdrawn from the England camp due to a quadriceps injury. The 23-year-old, who is of course a target for Chelsea, felt something prior to the Three Lions' thrashing of Croatia but played 70 minutes anyway.

‌

Now, though, things have taken a turn for the worse for Scott. Sources close to the situation say Scott is set to be out of action for around six weeks, meaning he will definitely not be in the squad to take on Chelsea at the weekend.

Eli Junior Kroupi and Amine Adli are due back soon for Bournemouth but the visit to London could come too soon for the pair. Kroupi is missing due to a serious foot injury he sustained in July, while Adli picked up a calf/shin problem in August.

Speaking before the international break, Rose said: "Not right after the national break, but quite soon when we start to play again. Amine feels okay, so I think during October, we get these guys back. Junior maybe needs some days longer, but he should still do some games in this year."

‌

Veljko Milosavljevic is in a similar boat. The Serbian defender is due back after the international break but whether he makes the trip to Stamford Bridge remains up in the air due to a knee injury.

Julian Araujo, however, is set to miss October because of a thigh problem. Rose said: "He needs a little longer, but the plan is to get him back in November as well."

There is less clarity regarding Justin Kluivert. The Netherlands international suffered an injury in Bournemouth's historic Europa League win away at Real Sociedad prior to the break and was subsequently ruled out of the defeat to Liverpool a few days after.

"It's a small muscle injury, and you never know," said Rose on September 20. "It's about the tendon; it's about just the muscle, so we have to see.

‌

"We still don't know, but now we have three weeks to work on it, and we're going to see how long it needs after the national break."
