Juventus eye Liverpool trio

Juventus have started the 2026/27 Serie A season slowly. Luciano Spalletti’s side are seventh after five matches, with three wins, one draw and one defeat.

They have 10 points from eight goals scored and four conceded. That level them with Frosinone and Como.

Juventus finished sixth last season and are playing in the Europa League rather than the Champions League.

Injuries have added to the pressure. Goalkeeper Kamil Grabara tore his ACL in training and is out for the season. Juventus replaced him with 37-year-old Norberto Neto, who signed a deal until June 2027.

Juventus visit Cagliari on October 11. Squad planning is already looking beyond that fixture, and Liverpool are involved.

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are targeting Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Giovanni Leoni, with all three linked in recent days.

Alisson is the most established name. Juventus were linked with the Brazilian in the summer, but no deal materialised. He turned 33 on October 2.

His contract expires in June 2027.

Tuttosport says Juventus are ready to revisit the move on a free transfer, and describes him as “still among the top 10 goalkeepers in the world.” The paper adds that his wages would likely need to fall from his Liverpool level.

Van Dijk’s deal also runs out in June 2027.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Juventus sent an emissary to watch him in the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Germany on September 24. The scout is reportedly close to Spalletti.

Juventus are also reported to be assessing other defenders as potential free agents, including Fikayo Tomori. Interest in Van Dijk is in an early stage of assessment rather than evidence of advanced talks.

Leoni is the youngest of the three. The 19-year-old centre-back joined Liverpool from Parma in August 2025. He has been out since tearing his ACL on his debut against Southampton the following month.

Gazzetta reports that Juventus asked about a loan in recent months and that Liverpool rejected the enquiry. The paper adds that Juventus plan to watch him every week once he returns. Gazzetta says the club wants more Italian players in its squad.

Leoni’s Liverpool contract runs until 2031.
