The NFL has already witnessed Jared Goff make history through the first four weeks of the 2026 season, despite the Detroit Lions quarterback not having a winning record.

Goff has become the only quarterback in NFL history to record at least 1,200 passing yards and zero turnovers through the first four games of a season while also having a record below .500. His remarkable start has put him in rare statistical territory, even as the Lions have struggled to consistently turn his production into victories.

Goff added another impressive performance to his season on Sunday, throwing for 412 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers. However, his efforts were not enough to lift Detroit to victory, as the Lions fell 32-26 to Carolina.

The loss dropped Detroit to 2-2 through the first four weeks of the season. It was also the first game of the year in which Goff failed to throw multiple touchdown passes.

Despite that setback, Goff’s overall numbers remain outstanding. He has completed the first four games with 1,214 passing yards and nine touchdowns while avoiding an interception entirely. His ability to protect the football while producing at a high level has been one of the biggest positives for the Lions early in the season.

Lions look ahead to Week 5

Detroit will now look to get back above .500 when the Lions travel to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5. The matchup will be the team’s final game before its Week 6 bye.

For Goff, the Cardinals game provides another opportunity to pair his impressive individual production with a team victory. While his historic statistical accomplishment highlights just how effectively he has played, the Lions will ultimately need wins to match their quarterback’s strong start.

At 2-2, Detroit remains firmly in the mix, but the pressure will increase if the team cannot turn Goff’s record-setting production into results. With zero turnovers and more than 1,200 passing yards already on his resume, Goff has certainly made NFL history—but he and the Lions will be focused on adding more wins to the record next.
