Liverpool
As per latest transfer news, Chelsea are reportedly interested in Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentina international is unhappy that Liverpool have decided against offering him a new contract.
Why Alexis Mac Allister is unhappy at Anfield
As reported by football Insider, Mac Allister said he felt“very, very sad”when Liverpool decided against offering him new terms. The 27-year-old is under contract until June 2028, so the Reds face no pressure to sell this winter. He explained that his agent passed on the message that the club was not in a position to renew him. Chelsea and Manchester City reportedly made contact over the summer, and he says he turned down options to leave. He insists he gives 100% for the club every single day in training, whatever happens with his contract.
His frustration looks sharper because Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, his regular midfield partners, both signed new contracts this year. He has worked his way back into the side of Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola, who took charge in June. He has started three of Liverpool’s first five Premier League games this season. Allister also opened the scoring in the 3-1 EFL Cup win over Tottenham at Anfield on 15 September. Since joining from Brighton in 2023, he has made 157 appearances, scoring 21 goals and adding 21 assists.
Mac Allister’s 2026/27 stats for Liverpool so far, as per FOTMOB:
Competition Matches Goals Assists Chances created Defensive contributions Duels Won(%)
Premier League 5 0 0 3 41 50%
EFL Cup 1 1 1 2 5 54.5%
UCL 1 1 0 2 4 60%
What Chelsea could gain from the move
Chelsea need midfield reinforcements after Enzo Fernandez joined Manchester City in a £125m deadline-day deal on 1 September. Chelsea agreed a deal for Monaco’s Lamine Camara as his replacement, but it collapsed when Monaco pulled out. Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea rank among the leading suitors. He added that Alexis Mac Allister will not start every game and can have some poor spells.
Brown pointed to the “bite and aggression”in Mac Allister’s game as one reason he ticks boxes for Chelsea. It is not a like-for-like swap, as Fernandez dictates play from deep while Mac Allister brings more bite. Alongside Moises Caicedo in a double pivot, he could give Chelsea a more aggressive midfield base. His years in English football also mean little settling time, which Brown said matters midway through a season.
Will Liverpool offer a new contract ?
TEAMtalk reported on 27 September that strong form this season could still change Liverpool’s mind. Earlier this month, he said his comments came from emotion, not bitterness, and he still wants a new deal. He has also said he does not plan to force a move away from Anfield. Brown believes Liverpool may sell him if they do not plan to keep him beyond 2028.
Real Madrid are also linked, and a possible Aurelien Tchouameni sale there could create room for him. The club gets less value from a new deal here than it did with his two teammates. The report points out that he turns 30 in December 2028, which limits his resale value later. His next test comes when Liverpool host Manchester City, the club that signed Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m.
