West Ham centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos has confirmed that he only picked up a minor knock in Greece’s 0-0 draw against Germany at the weekend.
The 28-year-old was replaced by Panagiotis Retsos with 12 minutes of normal time left.
Mavropanos appeared to be frustrated with the substitution, having confronted manager Ivan Jovanovic to ask why he was taken off, but speaking after the match, he clarified what had happened:
“I think there was a misunderstanding [with the coach], but okay, bygone, [everything is] forgotten.”
“Retsos came in and did a tremendous job too, all the kids playing, give their all. I was in a little pain, but it’s nothing major. Everything’s fine.”
Will Mavropanos be fit to face QPR?
The Hammers are playing on Friday night, so it does give the Greek international slightly less time to recover.
However, if the injury is as minor as Mavropanos suggests, then head coach Nuno Espirito Santo should be able to include him in the starting lineup for the clash against Queens Park Rangers.

Who could West Ham pick if Mavropanos is ruled out?
Nuno’s options are pretty limited if, for some reason, the defender’s injury is worse than initially anticipated. Summer arrival Morato could move centrally. The Brazilian has been deployed at left back since his loan switch from Nottingham Forest, but his natural position is centre-half. He could well partner Max Kilman, with Ollie Scarles coming into the team.
Of course, the hope will be that Mavropanos is fit and available. The former Arsenal and Stuttgart player has played a key role at the start of this season, scoring 4 times in 7 Championship appearances, including the crucial equaliser against Millwall last time out.
