NFL Injury News: Monday Updates on Saquon Barkley, Pat Surtain, Lamar Jackson and More

The NFL injury report coming out of Sunday’s Week 4 action is rather staggering, especially due to the alarming number of big-name players that exited in Week 4 and didn’t return to action. While there are still more tests to be done and final determinations won’t be made for days, we do have some early updates on Monday norning.

Let’s take a look at the latest NFL injury news right now, with updates on the likes of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, Denver Broncos corner Pat Surtain II and others.

Lamar Jackson exited Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans with an ankle injury and didn’t return to action. While the one-sided game likely had something to do with that, the two-time NFL MVP was spotted in a walking boot after the game. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported late Sunday that Jackson’s ankle injury is believed to be a “day-to-day” deal with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting on Monday that Jackson will undergo an MRI later today. Baltimore faces the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football in Week 5, so a game-time status for Jackson would mean that an announcement on his status wouldn’t be made until late Sunday afternoon.

For the second time this season, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley exited with an injury. He missed most of Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams with a hamstring injury, with testing coming on Monday. While the results of those tests will come later in the day, Ian Rapoport reported Monday on Good Morning Football that Barkley’s injury isn’t considered to be overly serious. It’s possible the All-Pro doesn’t make the trip to London to face the Jacksonville Jaguars, but as of now it appears there might only be a short-term absence if any.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton will be out indefinitely, potentially for the rest of the season, after suffering a dislocated ankle in Week 4. Unfortunately for Kansas City, that wasn’t the only injury to its receiving corps on Sunday. Rashee Rice exited with a hamstring issue and Mike Silver of The Athletic reported Sunday night that Rice could be out several weeks because of it. The Chiefs have a Week 5 bye, which gives Rice some time to recover, but he still could be looking at missing one or two games.

New Orleans Saints rookie wideout Jordyn Tyson hasn’t played this season due to a hamstring injury he suffered in training camp. Sadly, fans won’t see him on the field anytime soon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that Tyson is “weeks away” from getting back on the field. The best-case scenario as of now would see Tyson make his NFL debut in Week 7. However, given the Saints have a bye the following week, it’s likely that Tyson might not play until Week 9 (Nov. 8) against the Cleveland Browns.

Buffalo Bills wideout DJ Moore exited in Week 4 with a shoulder injury, the same issue that knocked him out of action earlier this season. While Bills head coach Joe Brady didn’t provide an update after the game, Adam Schefter reported Sunday night for ESPN that Moore’s injury isn’t viewed as a “long-term issue” right now. He might not suit up in Week 5 against the Los Angeles Rams, but he will have an extra day to recover with the Bills playing on Monday Night Football. Just keep in mind that Buffalo has a Week 7 bye, so the team could play it safe and keep him out for the next two games to effectively give him almost one month for the shoulder to heal.

Pat Surtain II, Denver Broncos

Even more painful for the Denver Broncos than Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers was the Pat Surtain injury. Denver’s All-Pro cornerback suffered a non-contact lower-body injury right before halftime, requiring help into the locker room. While the exact nature of the injury is still unknown, Denver is breathing a slight sigh of relief Monday morning because it isn’t believed to be a season-ending injury. While there’s no exact timeline for Surtain’s return, per Ian Rapoport, the Broncos do expect him back in 2026.
