In recent weeks, reports have linked Arsenal with a move for Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha as the Englishman continues to impress at Anfield.
He is regarded as one of the most talented English players of his generation and has now become a permanent member of the Liverpool first team. That status has allowed him to receive regular playing time and continue his development.
Ngumoha joined Liverpool after leaving Chelsea and has so far lived up to expectations. However, he became eligible for a new and improved contract after turning 18 on 29 August, yet an agreement has not been reached.
Liverpool supporters expected the process to be straightforward. The club and the player’s representatives have been negotiating for several months, but progress has been slow.
Liverpool facing contract concern
Liverpool Echo reports that no agreement has been reached so far, making Ngumoha’s future one of the key issues that the club’s incoming sporting director must resolve.
The delay could benefit Arsenal, even though Liverpool has warned Mikel Arteta’s side that Ngumoha is not for sale. The Reds also rejected interest from Bayern Munich during the summer and remain determined to retain the winger.
Liverpool knows how valuable Ngumoha could become and wants to improve the terms and length of his contract. The club also believes he can develop into an important player for the first team.

Arsenal waiting for an opening
Arsenal is monitoring the situation because the absence of a new agreement could eventually create uncertainty. If negotiations continue without progress, the Gunners could decide to test Liverpool’s resolve with an offer.
Liverpool’s current position remains clear, as the club does not want to sell Ngumoha. However, failing to secure his long-term future could leave the Reds exposed to further interest from Arsenal and other clubs.
Ngumoha’s development means he is likely to attract even more attention if he continues receiving first-team opportunities. Arsenal may therefore wait patiently while Liverpool attempts to resolve the contract situation.
