Newcastle United are one of three Premier League clubs who have made enquiries about Granada winger Owen Emeka, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Moretto said that while the Magpies, Arsenal, Everton and Real Madrid have all shown interest in the 17-year-old, the player has decided to stay where he is:

“Last season he had offers from important clubs, but he refused to leave Granada and decided to renew. They [Real Madrid] tried this possible signing, but it didn’t happen and Emeka decided to renew.

There are [other] clubs that follow him closely. Everton, Newcastle and Arsenal asked about him.”

What do fans need to know about Emeka?

The Spaniard went through several youth teams, including Atletico Benemiel, CD Tiro Pichon and 26 Febrero, before joining Granada’s academy in July 2024.

Emeka made his senior debut against Real Oviedo back in August, and he scored his first goal against Albacete during a 1-1 draw last month.

At international level, the forward has been capped by Spain at Under-17 and Under-18 level. He started a friendly against England’s Under-18s on Saturday, playing 87 minutes in the 2-0 win.

Newcastle United have looked at several other wingers

Emeka prefers to play on the right flank, and that is a position that head coach Matthis Jaissle and sporting director Ross Wilson are looking to strengthen.

Other wide players have been linked with a switch to St James’ Park in recent weeks. Sporting Lisbon’s Geny Catamo has been mentioned as a potential option.

The 25-year-old has a good deal more experience than Emeka, and he would be a better fit than some of the other targets that have been suggested, such as RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa and Atletico Madrid’s Alex Baena.
