‘I Was Questioning if I Can Even Throw’ – Giants QB Gets Honest on ‘Jameis Winston Experience’ Amid J.J. McCarthy Rumors 1

In a 36-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4, New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston put up a stat line of 18-for-29 for 250 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. It was classic “Jameis Winston Experience” at MetLife Stadium.

Winston faced the media after the game to deliver an honest assessment of his situation amid growing rumors that J.J. McCarthy would start as QB1 sooner rather than later.

Jaxson Dart’s injury opened the door for Winston to take over the starting job. That security vanished last week when head coach John Harbaugh and the front office made a trade with the Minnesota Vikings to acquire McCarthy. McCarthy’s arrival put Winston on notice.

New York beat reporters like Connor Hughes contend that McCarthy ought to be named the starter as soon as he is good to go: “J.J. McCarthy needs to start as soon as he’s ready. The Jameis Winston extension seems so absurd — really doesn’t make any sense. At least they did something to try to fix it with the McCarthy trade,” Hughes tweeted.

But during Sunday’s press conference, Winston dismissed the pressure. “I’m heating up,” Winston said. “And I’m starting to get better, better and better. Last week I was questioning if I can even throw. This week I got people talking about the Jameis Winston experience again”

When reporters asked if he felt disrespected, Winston said: “I feel challenged to get better every single day… No matter the circumstances, conditions, or facts, my mind is on what my heart desires, and that’s to be a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.”
