City in the Community opens applications for new grant programme to support more young people in Manchester

City in the Community, Manchester City’s official charity, has today opened applications for Manchester’s Connecting Communities Fund, supporting young people to get active, be creative and express themselves in the build-up to UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland.

The initiative, part of Wembley Stadium Foundation’s Communities Fund, is supporting young people and organisations across England’s UEFA EURO 2028 Host Cities, with the Etihad Stadium set to host five games across the tournament – including England’s opening match.

City in the Community, working in partnership with Wembley Stadium Foundation and Curious Minds, a national arts and cultural education charity based in Wigan, will deliver Manchester’s community grant programme to bring this funding opportunity to local charities and grassroots organisations.

The funding will provide small grants, of up to £5,000, for projects or activities for young people delivering participatory activities in sport, movement and performing arts.

Applications open on Monday 5th October and close Monday 2nd November. The fund will help to reduce barriers to participation and ensure children and young people can access high-quality, inclusive and engaging opportunities in their local communities. The projects will help young people build confidence and skills, as well as feel a sense of ownership, pride and connection to their city.

Mike Geary, Chief Executive Officer of City in the Community, has said “We know how sport can empower healthier lives. So, as Manchester prepares to play its part in UEFA EURO 2028 UK & Ireland, it’s vital that the tournament leaves a meaningful legacy beyond the stadiums.

“By investing in local projects and the organisations that know their communities best, we can help ensure more young people can benefit long after the final whistle.”
