Dak Prescott Has One Big Reason Cowboys' Houston Win Felt Like a Homecoming 1
The Dallas Cowboys had plenty of reasons to celebrate after defeating the Houston Texans with a 34-30 win on Sunday, October 4. CeeDee Lamb stole the spotlight with a career-best 17 catches, while Dak Prescott delivered the late drive that put the Cowboys ahead for good; however, for Prescott, the afternoon carried an extra edge.
The Cowboys quarterback has history in the Texans, and so does Lamb. Still, what stood out to Prescott was not just the win or the comeback but the way the Cowboys fans turned an away game into something that felt surprisingly familiar.

Prescott explained that feeling after Sunday’s win, speaking with Jon Machota, who reported his comments on X on October 5. The QB said the support from Cowboys fans inside Houston made the atmosphere feel much closer to home.
“It’s fun to play here. It’s special in the fact of the way the Cowboy fans travel. Obviously this is the easiest travel for them and you felt it there in the fourth quarter. I even said at one point, ‘Man, I’d be upset if this was happening in Dallas.’
“When the crowd is that loud cheering for the defense, but that’s a credit to our fans and appreciate them for that. It makes the atmosphere that much more special for me and the Cowboys. It’s close to home, feels good to get a win. Last time that I was here, we lost in an overtime game on some (DeAndre Hopkins) miraculous spin moves, and just to be here years later and to get a win, it’s fun.”

That support became especially noticeable late in the game. The Texans had taken a 30-27 lead with roughly two and a half minutes remaining; however, Prescott answered with an 11-play, 74-yard possession. He converted a fourth down before finding Lamb for the 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds left.
For Prescott, the moment also held personal significance. His last game in Houston ended in a painful overtime loss, remembered for DeAndre Hopkins’ spectacular spin move, but this time he left the city with a win.
And the Cowboys needed that late escape. Lamb was spectacular throughout, finishing with 17 receptions for 189 yards and the game-winning score. Javonte Williams added three rushing touchdowns as the Cowboys rallied from multiple deficits.
The win also mattered for the wide receiver, whose family relocated to the Houston area after Hurricane Katrina. His grandmother attended the game, adding another personal layer to an already emotional afternoon.
Still, Prescott’s comments showed why the Houston trip felt different. The Cowboys weren’t technically at home, however, with their fans making enough noise to cheer the defense on the road, it certainly sounded like it.
