The Chicago Bears played games in Week 4 against the New York Jets when it came to the quarterback position. After days of people speculating that Tyson Bagent would start, head coach Ben Johnson had Case Keenum take the opening snap with Bagent on the field at the same time. Bagent ended up taking all of the snaps after that.

This time, Johnson is getting ahead of the game for Week 5, and he's announced that Bagent will be the starter against the Green Bay Packers, according to Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune.

“Tyson Bagent will start for the Bears in Week 5 against the Green Bay Packers, coach Ben Johnson said on his weekly radio hit at ESPN-1000,” Hammond wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

With that announcement, that means Caleb Williams will miss another week as he continues to recover from his hamstring injury. This should come as no surprise, as it was expected that Williams would miss a few weeks.

The good news is that the Bears have been able to win without Williams for the past two weeks. Last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, Keenum came in and delivered a strong performance for the offense. Yesterday, it was Bagent, who returned from a concussion.

At first, it was uncertain who was going to start against the Jets with both quarterbacks on the field at the same time, and after the game, Johnson shared why he made that decision.

“I got all these memos saying that Tyson was starting before I ever made an announcement, so I wanted to get Case out there for that first snap. It was kind of like a ceremonial first pitch out there, handing off the torch,” Johnson said.

It's uncertain how much longer Williams will be sidelined, but it looks like they may be in good hands for now.
