Pittsburgh Steelers: Land Super Bowl Champion CB With 70 Starts 1
The Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback room has taken a major hit over the past week after trading Joey Porter Jr. and injuries continuing to pile up at the position. Jamel Dean suffered an ankle injury and is expected to miss “a couple of weeks,” while Jalen Ramsey is playing through a broken wrist. Meanwhile, projected starters Daylen Everette and Asante Samuel Jr. have both struggled, with Everette allowing a 146.8 passer rating and Samuel a 133.1 passer rating, per Pro Football Reference.

According to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer and Netflix Sports, the Steelers have signed Sean Murphy-Bunting off the Buccaneers’ practice squad. NFL rules require players poached from another team’s practice squad to receive at least three weekly paychecks, and they count against the 53-man roster for three weeks even if they are released before then. Murphy-Bunting offers depth with 65 regular-season and five playoff starts and positional versatility, capable of playing on the outside and in the slot.

Sean Murphy-Bunting recorded 52 tackles, three tackles for loss, three interceptions, and five pass deflections across 15 games in 2024. He also allowed a 70.7% completion rate, 461 passing yards, two touchdowns, and a modest 84.1 passer rating. Unfortunately, Murphy-Bunting suffered a season-ending ACL tear and MCL damage in May 2025. The Cardinals released him during roster cuts, and he later signed with the Buccaneers’ practice squad.
