Liverpool face a growing dilemma over Alisson Becker’s future, with the experienced goalkeeper entering the final year of his contract.
The Brazilian turned 34 a few days ago, leaving Liverpool’s hierarchy with a major decision to make over whether to extend the contract of their long-term No.1 or begin planning for a younger successor.
Alisson has started every Premier League and Champions League match for Liverpool this season, highlighting his continued importance to the team. As things stand, the goalkeeper will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside England from January.
Alisson Becker was linked with Serie A giants Juventus earlier this year, although those rumours failed to develop into a concrete transfer. However, interest from European clubs could increase as his contract situation develops.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there are currently no active negotiations between Liverpool and Alisson over a new deal.
Romano said on Here We Go Podcast with Fabrizio Romano: “Alisson is a special situation because for Alisson, Juventus were very interested around April/May.
“Then Liverpool decided to continue with him also not to lose another leader after Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson and all the others who left in the summer transfer window. So Liverpool activated the option for an extra season 2027.
“Now if they want to continue together a new contract is needed. There is no option, no extra option in the contract. So, let’s see what’s going to happen.
“At the moment, there are no active conversations between Alisson and Liverpool over a new deal. Let’s see. I think there could be movements in summer 2027.”
Alisson, who was left out of Brazil’s squad for the September/October international break, reminded everyone of his immense value during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth. The Brazilian produced an incredible reflex save to deny Evanilson, underlining his importance between the posts.
Liverpool’s decision-making could be further complicated by the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Georgian international was signed from Valencia and, although he has yet to establish himself as the starter, he is viewed as Alisson’s natural successor.
