Washington Commanders: QB Injury in Week 4 vs. Indianapolis Colts Revealed 1

The Washington Commanders are looking to get things right at the quarterback position, as two of their quarterbacks have dealt with injuries. Heading back from an international game in Week 4, playing in London, there are some massive question marks surrounding the quarterback position as third-string Athan Kaliakmanis played the majority of the game. Let’s take a closer look at one of the quarterback injury updates for the Washington Commanders.

The Washington Commanders saw quarterback Marcus Mariota exit Week 4’s game against the Indianapolis Colts early and not return to the game. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler is reporting that the former second-overall pick suffered an MCL sprain for the second time, with the other happening in the preseason. This injury will likely keep Mariota on the shelf for a few weeks, but nothing has been confirmed on how long he will be sidelined for as of this writing.

The Washington Commanders are hoping to have starting quarterback Jayden Daniels back on the field, as he was questionable for the Week 4 matchup. With Mariota likely not being available for a few weeks, expect Athan Kaliakmanis to slide into the backup quarterback role when Daniels is healthy enough to return.

Marcus Mariota has been playing incredibly well this season, replacing Jayden Daniels as he recovered from his elbow injury. Mariota is completing 33 of 51 (64.7%) of his passes for 340 yards and four passing touchdowns, without an interception, while also running seven times for 49 yards (7.0 yards per carry). The Commanders are now in a position where they need some quarterback health to go their way as the season continues to roll on.

Below is the schedule for the Washington Commanders before their bye week in Week 7:

Week 5: vs. New York Giants

Week 6: at San Francisco 49ers (Monday)

With the team currently 1-3 on the season, they cannot afford to lose too many more games if they want to have a chance to win the NFC East. It will be intriguing to see how long this injury keeps Mariota sidelined for.
