The New Orleans Saints have some issues to deal with, and injuries are part of the problem. However, one question that remains is whether Tyler Shough can be a franchise quarterback. Troy Aikman gave his thoughts, according to a post on X by ESPN.
“Tyler Shough is an older guy, and he came in with his maturity,” Aikman said. “He’s asked to do a lot … within that offense. And yet, he’s handled it exceptionally well, considering they throw the ball as much as anybody. They don’t have much of a running game. So, there’s a lot on this young guy’s shoulders that he’s having to carry.
“And he definitely gives them some hope that he will be the guy. And from what I’ve seen of him, I think he’s got a really bright future.”
Heading into Monday Night Football, Shough had thrown for 917 yards in three games with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
Saints hoping for big things from QB Tyler Shough
The Saints headed into the game against the Falcons needing a bounce-back. Shough said he hoped the team could move past the loss to the Raiders, according to Sports Illustrated.
“I mean, one, we’ve just got to be better,” Shough said. “Towards the end there, we had opportunities all the way towards the end, and we feel very comfortable in those moments, and we’re just a couple plays away. Whether it’s a miscommunication or a good job by them, but we can clean that up for sure.
“More than anything, it’s just keep going. It’s a long season. There’s a lot of great stuff to watch on film, a lot of stuff that we can learn from. Finishing strong in that game is really one of those things, and that starts with myself protecting the ball. It starts with all of us.”
But the loss was still tough.
“Oh, man, it hurts for sure, because you understand the work that was put in and you understand the fight,” Shough said. “That’s the best thing for our team is—it hurts whenever you love each other that way.”
