Chris Jones praised Kirk Cousins after a tough division game that was decided in the final minute. The Chiefs defensive tackle pointed to Cousins’ toughness after he faced constant pressure and still led a late scoring drive.

Kansas City escaped the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27, but the score did not describe an easy afternoon for the Chiefs. Cousins kept Las Vegas close through the drive, forcing Kansas City’s defense to handle a veteran quarterback and team. Chris Jones, who has faced Las Vegas for 11 seasons, said this version of the Raiders looked different under head coach Klint Kubiak.

“[Cousins is] a warrior on that field. We knew it was going to be a physical game. We knew it was going to come down to four quarters, maybe a fifth quarter if possible, but they fought to the end,” Jones said. “That’s a really, really good team there, and they have a great head coach. I’ve played the Raiders for 11 years. I’ve seen different versions of them, but at the present time, that’s a really, really good team,” he added.
Cousins finished 31 of 52 for 365 yards, two touchdowns, and a late interception that ultimately sealed the win for Kansas City. Jones’ comments recognized the challenge, but Kansas City was still left with a 4-0 record, and Las Vegas dropped to 3-1.

The game had already tightened before the final exchange. The victory, however, came at a cost as Kansas City dealt with new injury setbacks to its receiving corps. With Tyquan Thornton carted off following a serious ankle injury, quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to lean heavily on the remaining targets to protect the lead. Las Vegas capitalized on the adjustment, applying relentless defensive pressure through Maxx Crosby to disrupt the pocket and trigger a late scoring drive.
Maxx Crosby summed up Las Vegas’ response after the loss: “We’ve got to give them credit,” he said.
Kansas City found a way to close a division game, but Las Vegas proved it can stay with the Chiefs for four quarters. Cousins’ performance and Jones’ praise now give the Raiders a stronger standard to carry forward.
