'A powerhouse': National media blown away by 42-touch Arsenal after 'magnificent' performance

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres continued his exceptional scoring form for Sweden during Monday’s Nations League clash against Romania.

The 28-year-old has had a tough time with the Gunners this term. He has yet to start in the Premier League and has managed just 29 minutes.

However, he has been flourishing for the national side. Gyokeres had scored in his last three appearances for Sweden and continued the streak yesterday.

Gyokeres was in the right spot at the right time to score from a rebound in the 13th minute against Romania on the road. It proved to be the winner.

Popular Swedish outlet Aftonbladet (page 35) were undoubtedly impressed by him and said that he is a ‘powerhouse’ and ‘goal machine’ rolled into one ‘magnificent package’.

They wrote: “A powerhouse and goal machine rolled into one magnificent package. Another impressive performance and another goal—though, in fairness, it was one of the easiest of his career, given that Nanasi delivered the standout effort on the play.

“Still, you have to be in the right place at the right time, and Gyökeres consistently is for the national team. He extended his Nations League scoring streak to seven consecutive matches and now boasts an incredibly impressive international scoring average of 0.6.”

As Aftonbladet said, Gyokeres has now extended his Nations League scoring streak to seven matches. He has been in scintillating form for his national side and has a big opportunity to carry the momentum when the Gunners resume their Premier League campaign.

Aside from his goal, the striker registered 42 touches with 19 successful passes. He was solid with his hold-up play and won five ground and aerial duels. Gyokeres should have had an assist towards the end, but his teammate’s shot unfortunately hit the woodwork.

Gyokeres has played second fiddle to Kai Havertz in the league matches this term. He has been an unused substitute three times with just 29 minutes off the bench. Havertz sustained a hamstring injury with Germany late last month and remains doubtful for the short term.

Regardless of Havertz’s fitness, we would personally want manager Mikel Arteta to pick Gyokeres to lead the line with his current form. He netted thrice against Leeds United in his debut season and should relish facing them again at the Emirates Stadium on October 10.
