‘I used to’ - Lewis Hall shares Newcastle United story that will wind up Chelsea supporters

Lewis Hall is a boyhood Newcastle United supporter and well on his way to becoming a club legend.

If Geordie were a nationality, Lewis Hall could rightfully claim a passport. Born almost 250 miles from St James’ Park, his father, Colin, is a North East native who drilled the Newcastle United message into him from an early age.

A product of Chelsea’s youth academy, cynics have sometimes questioned how much of Hall’s black-and-white journey is true. But every piece of available evidence points towards one result: he was a boyhood Newcastle fan.

In 2021, even before his Premier League fame, the left-back’s brother, Connor, then playing for Chorley, confirmed that the pair support the Magpies. However, summer speculation linking the left-back to Manchester United - now shut down following a lucrative contract extension - gave the outsiders fresh ammunition.

Hall’s actions silenced the noise as he committed his future to Newcastle until 2031. Speaking to The Gazette, Hall’s words now solidify where his true loyalties lie as he reflected on growing up as a Newcastle fan despite playing for Chelsea.

Lewis Hall shares Chelsea story

"When I was younger, I had a stadium tour around here (St James’ Park),” he said. “I can't remember how old I was. When I was in the academy at Chelsea, whenever we finished the games, I used to look at the results of Newcastle or sometimes just the line-ups because we played a little bit earlier.

“I always used to watch the games on TV and, genuinely, I always thought one day that I would play here. I didn't necessarily think it would be so soon in my career, but I'm here now and I'm buzzing.

“I'm always proud of every game that I play. I never take it for granted. I'm really proud to represent this team and this city. It's nice to see that, when you win the game, the atmosphere around the city is obviously so good. I'm really happy."

Lewis Hall away from football

Away from the pitch, Hall lives a quiet life. His focus is heavily built around becoming the best footballer possible.

Hall turned 22 last month but there appears to be little chance of him making the front page. When asked what he gets up to in his personal life, Newcastle’s star man cracked a wry smile.

"I spend a lot of time with my family and friends,” Hall replied. “Sometimes we go out for dinner or breakfast, different things like this.

“Sometimes me and a few of the lads might be on the golf course and whatever. I enjoy that. Taking my mind off from football, because I think that's important."
