Madueke started England’s World Cup quarter-final against Norway just a few months ago — one of five tournament appearances. But his lack of involvement for Arsenal so far has led to him falling down the ranks, despite Thomas Tuchel’s clear admiration for the winger.
European giants are now circling Madueke amid the uncertainty of his situation, with the Telegraph reporting that Atletico Madrid and Juventus are considering a move in January. Arsenal’s stance on a sale, though, is clear.
Arsenal want to keep Noni Madueke
According to Flashscore, Arsenal are not anticipating the sale of Madueke. Mikel Arteta still believes Madueke has an important role to play across a season in which Arsenal are competing on four fronts. The two-games-a-week schedule is approaching and to compound that, Christos Tzolis picked up a hamstring injury on international duty with Greece.
With the timeline of Tzolis’ return unknown, Madueke could suddenly play a much larger role in the squad. Arsenal’s options on the left flank are slim, with Eberechi Eze better suited to a pocket role.
Madueke showed plenty of intent against Ipswich in his last outing before the break in the Carabao Cup. And given Arsenal’s clear struggles in transition against Brighton, lacking pace in attack, Arteta could well be tempted to reshuffle his frontline to fit Madueke in.
His speed, directness and ability to beat his man in one-on-one situations are exactly what Arsenal lack right now, with Bukayo Saka seemingly playing a more goalscoring-oriented role so far.
For now, Arsenal want to keep Noni Madueke, and it makes little sense to sell him halfway through the season. However, there will be an onus on him to step up and raise his level. That could well determine whether the club’s stance could change by January.
