Aston Villa have confirmed the acquisition of Jake Doughty from Everton.
The 16-year-old has signed for Villa as a first-year scholar and will go into the academy ranks.
Villa say the winger will join their Under-18s squad, having played in the U18s Premier League for the Toffees last season.
Indeed Doughty scored seven in 15 games in the competition last term but due to his age had not signed a professional contract. That means Villa will pay a youth development compensation rather than a transfer fee.
Doughty has played at age group level for England and is just the latest talented youngster to join the club’s academy.
Academy manager Mark Harrison told the club website: “We are delighted that Jake has joined us from Everton.
“He is a wide attacking player with excellent technical qualities and an ability to create and score goals.
“Jake played a number of times for Everton Under-18s and represented England at Under-16 level. We look forward to seeing how Jake develops over the next few years.”
Brian Madjo signed from Metz in January – and is already in the first team picture. Twelve months ago they signed Fletcher Boyd from Aberdeen and he has featured for the Under-21s.
