The NFL has seen plenty of explosive two-game stretches, but the Atlanta Falcons have produced one unlike anything in league history after their dominant 45-24 win over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

The @AtlantaFalcons are the only team in NFL history to have a 2-game span with: 80+ points 800+ total yards 8+ rushing TDs no more than 1 turnover no more than 1 sack allowed https://t.co/C70yfZYCFs

The victory improved Atlanta to 2-2 and completed a remarkable turnaround after the Falcons opened the season with back-to-back losses. They have now scored 80 points across Weeks 3 and 4 after managing just 16 total points in their first two games.

More impressively, the Falcons became the only team in NFL history to record a two-game stretch with at least 80 points, 800 total yards, eight rushing touchdowns, no more than one turnover and no more than one sack allowed.

Penix Jr. sparks Atlanta’s turnaround

A major reason behind Atlanta’s resurgence has been the return of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Falcons opened the season with third-string quarterback Cooper Rush under center, but Penix returned in Week 3 after recovering from ACL surgery.

The 26-year-old has delivered impressive performances since his return, throwing for more than 200 yards and a touchdown in each of his appearances. He has also become the first Falcons quarterback since Matt Ryan in 2018 to record a completion percentage of at least 70% while averaging at least 10 yards per attempt in consecutive games.

The Falcons have also made history in primetime, becoming the first team ever to win back-to-back road primetime games by at least 20 points.

Bijan Robinson leads the ground attack

Running back Bijan Robinson has been equally important to Atlanta’s offensive explosion. Robinson opened the scoring in Monday’s game with a spectacular 59-yard touchdown and finished with more than 100 rushing yards for the second consecutive week.

That represents another dramatic change from the start of the season. Robinson failed to reach 100 rushing yards in either of Atlanta’s first two games and did not record a rushing touchdown during that span, although he did score a receiving touchdown in Week 1.

He has since rushed for two touchdowns in each of the Falcons’ last two games, helping fuel an offense that has suddenly become one of the NFL’s most dangerous.

Atlanta will look to continue its remarkable turnaround when it hosts the Baltimore Ravens, who enter Week 5 with a 3-1 record, on Sunday.
