Man City are one of five Premier League “giants” pursuing Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, according to reports in the Catalan media.

Sport claim that the France international’s limited game time this season has piqued the interest of English clubs.

Kounde has only started one league game, with head coach Hansi Flick having picked Eric Garcia ahead of him for the majority of fixtures.

Despite the current situation, Barca are not looking to offload the 27-year-old, with the player still having just under 4 years left on his contract. Sport report that it would take a “very high offer” to tempt the La Liga champions into selling up.

Which Premier League clubs want Kounde?

In addition to Enzo Maresca‘s side, it is believed that Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all tracking developments.

A lot will hinge on Kounde himself. He is remaining patient as he looks to win his place back from Garcia, but if he does not get more minutes, there is a chance that he may agitate for a transfer in the New Year.

Why do Man City want the defender?

While Kounde started his career as a centre-back, most of his appearances for Barcelona have been at right-back, which has been a problem position for the Cityzens since Kyle Walker’s departure.

Matheus Nunes has stayed first choice since Maresca’s appointment, but the Portuguese international has never been seen as the long-term solution. If Kounde is available (and City are able to make a move), his addition to the squad would make a lot of sense.
