Everton are back in Premier League action on Sunday and travel to the MKM Stadium to take on newly promoted Hull City, and lots of eyes will be on the team sheet to see where Tyler Dibling’s name will be.
Before the international break, Tyler Dibling left Evertonians very pleased indeed, as he shone against Wolves in the Carabao Cup. Dibling started on the right wing and was named the Player of the Match, and showed real confidence throughout the contest. He laid on the assist for the only goal of the game by Charly Alcaraz.
Dibling then got his first substitute appearance of the season against Ipswich – and it was another lively display from the 20-year-old.
The international break probably didn’t come at the best time for Dibling. But with club football about to resume, there is now a strong argument he should actually start against Hull.
Tyler Dibling should start vs Hull, he’s earned his chance
David Moyes has several options for that right wing position against Hull.
Brennan Johnson has played there a few times, as has Tyrique George. But Dibling ought to be his choice this Sunday.
Ultimately, even though there has been an extended international break, which has kind of reset things and taken away momentum, it is a golden opportunity for Dibling.
Hull are a newly promoted side, and represent a good chance for three points, and also a chance to let Dibling build on the two performances he gave a few weeks ago. The break wasn’t so ideal, but it’s still a moment that Moyes can communicate to the player that he genuinely does believe in him. It would be disappointing for Dibling to go back on the bench after those two excellent showings.
It has to be said, of course, that Hull are still a great team. They currently sit eighth in the Premier League table, just a place and a point below Everton. It will not be an easy game, especially at their stadium, and Moyes will obviously want to go as strong as possible.
But Dibling – who has started for England U21s tonight against the Republic of Ireland and has even scored – has the potential to make a difference here.
After Hull, Everton then have two much harder games in theory. The weekend after, it’s Chelsea at home and after that it’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
So it’s perhaps less realistic that Dibling has a lot of involvement in those particular games, making the Hull clash significant.
Furthermore, Brennan Johnson is just not performing at the moment. George is looking good, but you could argue he is less in need of a chance than Dibling.
Dibling set a couple of building blocks in place before the international break with his performances against Wolves and Ipswich. Now, Moyes risks kicking them away. Hopefully that won’t happen and we do see Everton’s £40 million man get that show of faith from his manager to start his first Premier League game
