Gabriel Jesus is relishing his time with Barcelona after completing a shock move to the Spanish giants. The Brazilian opted for a move to the Camp Nou in the summer, with a £8.6million deal being agreed.

Jesus, 29, has enjoyed a bright start to life with his new club, scoring twice in four appearances in all competitions.

In an interview with Sport, he has now opened up on the efforts that he went to to ensure he adapted to life in Spain. He said: “They gave us a plan for the days off and I trained a lot.

“I have felt very good. It was a month to adapt. I already knew some players I had played with, so it was good to get to know everyone. We have incredible players and a great coach. We are going in the right direction.”

On his move to Barcelona, Jesus added: “I feel very good to be at a club like this. All the fans remind me that I used to miss some classes to watch Barça in the Champions League.

“To end up wearing the Barça shirt is something I thank God for. It is his doing. And here I am.”

Jesus also opened up on his best friend with his new club and it was no surprise to see him select one of his former Manchester City team-mates.

He said: “The funniest player in the team is [Joao] Cancelo because of the way he talks, the way he is. He is a good guy. I have a very good relationship with him.

“I get on well with all my teammates, but I have a long history with Cancelo. We talk a lot, so I will go with Cancelo.”

Both Jesus and Cancelo spent three years as team-mates with former side Man City, winning three Premier League crowns and helping the club reach the Champions League final. Jesus left the Etihad in 2022 to join Premier League rivals Arsenal.

He endured an injury-hit spell with the North London side, scoring 32 goals in 123 appearances. Jesus rounded off his stint with Arsenal on a high, having claimed yet another Premier League winners’ medal.

Jesus will be back in action for Barcelona this weekend as they take on Getafe. Hansi Flick’s side currently sit top of La Liga and five points clear of nearest challengers Atletico Madrid after winning each of their opening seven games of the campaign.
