Report: Seahawks opt against signing RB Joe Mixon following physical

Joe Mixon's return to the NFL will have to wait.

The Seattle Seahawks have decided to not sign the veteran running back to their practice squad following a physical, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Monday that the team was "going through the process" of adding Mixon. That process evidently has ended without a signing.

Mixon missed the entire 2025 season with the Texans due to a foot injury, and Houston released him this past offseason.

When healthy, Mixon has been a highly productive running back, piling up 7,428 rushing yards, 2,448 receiving yards and 74 total touchdowns since entering the NFL as a second-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals back in 2017.

In his last season that saw game action, Mixon, 30, rushed for 1,016 yards with 11 touchdowns in 14 games with the 2024 Texans. He added 36 receptions for 309 yards and another score en route to his second career Pro Bowl selection.

Seattle has been in the market for a running back since placing rookie Jadarian Price on injured reserve last weekend due to a chest injury, sidelining the first-rounder a minimum of four games.

Emanuel Wilson is the team's current lead back, and he had 120 total yards and two touchdowns on 24 touches in the Seahawks' Week 4 win over the Chargers. Pass-catching back George Holani and converted wide receiver Velus Jones currently round out the depth chart, and Zach Charbonnet (torn ACL last January) is currently in his 21-day practice window to return to action.
