Why Eagles should really be concerned about missing NFL playoffs

The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-2 in the 2026 NFL season through four weeks. That's not a horrible place to be at all, especially with so much of the season still to go. But that record is deceiving.

Eagles fans know how close their two wins were, and they easily could've been 0-4 to start the season. They also could've been 3-1, or even 4-0 if just a few things went their way. But after four weeks, there's some real concern with this team.

As ESPN's Dan Graziano highlighted, there is some legitimate concern that the Eagles will miss the playoffs this year. Fans worrying about the Eagles missing the playoffs are not overreacting. The reason why? There are a lot of issues plaguing this team right now.

Why Eagles could really miss NFL playoffs

"If the Eagles keep struggling with these injury issues, and their offensive line continues to look like a shadow of its dominant 2024 self, they could be the third-best team in their own division. And it would be tough to make the playoffs from that spot," Graziano writes.

The Eagles are in some trouble. While the 2-2 record itself isn't anything to panic about, how they got to that record is worth being very worried.

DeVonta Smith is out due to a hamstring injury; Saquon Barkley is likely to miss some time as well. Other star players hurt for the Eagles right now include: Dallas Goedert, Lane Johnson, Zack Baun, Jonathan Greenard, Marcus Epps, and Quinyon Mitchell.

That's an extensive list, and it doesn't even include key depth injuries to Tank Bigsby, Eli Stowers, and others. This is a depleted team through four weeks, and it's not a recipe for success, let alone for a team to make the playoffs.

Vic Fangio's defense has been breaking more often than not this season so far, and Nick Sirianni's coaching decisions overall and on offense are hurting the team.

Sean Mannion's offense with Jalen Hurts has been a mess as well. If this Eagles offense doesn't see drastic improvement, there will be little hope for any success this season.

A playoff berth is far from a guarantee for this Eagles team, and considering the shift in vibes from after Week 2 to after Week 4, a missed playoff berth seems more likely than not for the Eagles' future.

If the offensive line can get figured out, however the Eagles do it, and the offense can climb to just league average, they'll have a chance to make the playoffs. But, as of now, there's significant concern about this team, and for good reason.
