Liverpool is looking ahead to the future, with reports claiming that a historic bid for a wonderkid could be on the cards for the Reds soon.

It comes as the Reds look to rebuild the squad for the long term, after seeing some of the club's best-ever players come and go in the past few years.

That has been reflected in some of the signings at both senior and academy level, with a clear push to sign players who still have the best years of their career ahead of them.

There is a young core coming through, with Rio Ngumoha, Lewis Koumas, and Trey Nyoni already making an impact for the senior side, while there is some hope that players like Will Wright and Josh Abe will come through at some point to make their way into Andoni Iraola's plans.

The arms race for new wonderkids doesn't stop there, however, with all the top teams looking to land young talent before they break out and become either too expensive for a transfer or inaccessible because they already play for a big team.

The next big star that teams look set to fight over in the transfer window is Gilberto Mora. The 17-year-old forward was a breakout star for Mexico at the World Cup, having made a mark for Club Tijuana in the senior team.

Having shown plenty of talent, there is an expectation that a move will follow when he turns 18 later this month, as clubs position themselves to seal a deal.

Liverpool is among those who have been linked, with TUDN reporting that the Merseyside outfit is preparing to make a huge offer to sign Mora.

It's claimed that an earth-shattering $50 million proposal has been made to Club Tijuana, as one of several offers that are expected in the coming weeks and months.

It's an historic bid, though it remains to be seen whether it's an offer that would be accepted or firmed up in time for the January transfer window or beyond.

If Liverpool does take charge of the race for Mora, then the club could get hold of one of the brightest talents of his generation before he truly becomes a household name.

The 17-year-old has scored five goals in seven appearances in the Liga MX Apertura phase, while he has also scored once for Mexico in one appearance during this three-week international break.

It remains to be seen what the future will hold for Mora, but it's clear that he has a bright future, wherever he ends up.
