Longtime Kansas City Chiefs mascot shares insight with Women Connect in Minot

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - If you’re a long-time fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, you’ve probably heard of KC Wolf. Tuesday afternoon, the man who wore the costume visited the Magic City to share his stories from his time as the beloved mascot.

For 35 years, Dan Meers was the man behind KC Wolf. He shared his stories from his time as the Kansas City Chiefs’ mascot as part of Women Connect.

Meers wrote a book based on his career and the lessons he learned along the way.

“It’s like I’ve always told my kids, you know that your life is like a coin, you get to spend it any way you wish, but you’re only going to spend it one time, so spend it wisely,” said Meers.

Meers also stressed the importance of taking the time to empower others.

“Invest in others, invest in those around you, and because when you’re investing in others, it’s going to make your own life a whole lot happier,” said Meers.

Meers recounted an accident more than a decade ago where he fell 75 feet from Arrowhead Stadium as part of a bungee jump and zip line stunt. He survived, but spent many months recovering.

Meers would continue on as KC Wolf for many years, and now works with the Chiefs part-time.

“I finally told the Chiefs, ‘I’m a full-time mascot, I’m a part-time grandpa, and I’m ready to be a full-time grandpa, part-time mascot,’” said Meers.

Rianne Kuhn is a member of Women Connect, and said visits from guests like Meers are important to their mission.

“We get people in the room that all want to grow. No one wants to sit stagnant, and so when we bring in speakers that are dynamic, they make you feel good. You get to leave with a full cup,” said Kuhn.

Kuhn said that the goal of Women Connect is to keep the community feeling inspired.

“If you’re not filling your cup, and feeling good, and finding people to inspire you, you get stuck,” said Kuhn.

She said that the organization is a great way to get like-minded people in a room and to inspire them.
