Jason Kelce Comments On Retirement Of Former Teammate
Kelce, who retired following the 2023 season, took the time to celebrate former teammate Lane Johnson not only for what he accomplished on the field, but for the person he was away from football. Johnson announced his retirement on Tuesday evening. Kelce talked about everything from sitting in meetings and joking around to riding in the car listening to country music and simply talking about life.
Here is Kelce’s full message to his former teammate:
Lane Johnson is a special player, but more importantly a special person! I love him like a brother! For the past decade, Lane has been the best Right tackle in the NFL.
His athleticism, technique, strength, and size, combined to make him a player few could get around. His pass set and movements looked more like an art than someone who punched people for a living. It was a pure joy to watch him play for all these years, but even more so, it was a pure joy to be his friend.
Lane could make me laugh, cry, and smile all in a matter of hours. In the meeting room cracking jokes, in his car listening to country music lyrics, at the cafeteria talking about life, I cherish the memories, they give me so much joy.
Congratulations on retirement, I loved ever second of watching you play, and am proud that I got to share the field with you LaneJohnson65
Jason Kelce’s message to Lane Johnson feels different because these two weren’t just teammates. They were brothers on the Eagles’ offensive line for years, sharing some of the biggest moments in franchise history. Johnson retired after 14 seasons in Philadelphia, ending a career that included six Pro Bowls, two first-team All-Pro selections and two Super Bowl championships.

Johnson leaves Philadelphia as one of the most accomplished right tackles of his generation. More than the awards and championships, though, Kelce’s tribute makes it clear that the memories made along the way are what he’ll remember most.
