It's been a bright start to the new season for Arsenal, who won seven of their first eight games before the international break, including an emphatic 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield.

However, a 3-0 defeat to Brighton last month left something of a sour taste in the mouth and Mikel Arteta's side will be raring to set things right when domestic football resumes this weekend.

Looking ahead, there's more than Saturday's clash with Leeds to think about. The Gunners evidently have some squad building left to do after selling three forwards over the summer and bringing in just one.

And with rumours swirling that Noni Madueke is being targeted, the need for reinforcements could ramp up significantly. With that in mind, here are the latest Arsenal-related headlines.

Madueke targeted by two clubs

Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is being eyed by both Atletico Madrid and Juventus, with a January exit potentially on the cards. The 24-year-old, signed from Chelsea for £50million last summer, has struggled for game-time so far this season.

He has made just two Premier League appearances so far, both from the bench, racking up a total of just 27 minutes on the pitch. His only starts have come in the Community Shield and Arsenal's League Cup third-round victory over Ipswich last month.

That represents a significant change from this time last year, when Madueke had started four of Arsenal's opening five league games before a knee injury ruled him out.

Despite his lack of action, Juventus and Atletico are both considering a move for the winger, who was omitted from Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad. According to The Telegraph, any January deal would be a loan rather than a permanent transfer.

Madueke still has almost four years remaining on his Arsenal contract, meaning the Gunners are under no immediate pressure to offload him. However, if Arteta continues to overlook the former PSV man, a temporary move could give him the regular football he needs while allowing Arsenal to reassess the situation next summer.

Fabregas 'given green light' to join Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas has effectively been given the green light to return to Arsenal if he decides to pursue a managerial career at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners icon has worked wonders since taking charge of Como in 2024 and reportedly has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for former clubs Barcelona, Arsenal or Chelsea without the need for a significant compensation payment.

Como president Mirwan Suwarso did not deny the existence of the clause when asked about it, instead insisting that Fabregas - who is also a minority shareholder in the club - will be free to take the next step in his career whenever he feels the time is right.

"He doesn't need a clause to go anywhere he wants," Suwarso told Piers Morgan's Football Uncensored show. "In a business like this, he's a friend more than anything else. He can go wherever he wants, whenever he wants.

"I could even say if tomorrow he calls me and says, 'Hey, I want to go to Leverkusen'. I would say if that's something you want to do then go. I don't need any compensation."

Having spent the bulk of his playing career at Arsenal, it is perhaps inevitable that Fabregas will be linked with the manager's job at his former club. His reputation has only grown since moving into coaching, with the Spaniard helping Como secure promotion to Serie A in 2024 before guiding them to their highest-ever league finish of fourth last season and a place in the Champions League for the first time in their history.

However, there is little reason for Arsenal to be considering a change in the dugout while Arteta continues to deliver. The Spaniard shows no signs of wanting to leave either, meaning a Fabregas return to north London may have to wait.

For now, at least.
