Saints make unfortunate history not seen since 1982 against Falcons on MNF image

After what seemed like a very promising start to the season for the New Orleans Saints, barely losing to the Detroit Lions in overtime before beating the Baltimore Ravens, they haven't exactly responded in a perfect way.

The Saints lost to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3 and couldn't get anything going on either side of the ball against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night.

The Falcons completely manhandled the Saints on both sides of the football, winning 45-24. This was as disappointing a showing as anybody could have imagined for New Orleans, and it actually made some unfortunate history, per the latest.

“The Saints have not lost by 20 points to the Falcons since 1999. They haven't lost THIS badly since 1982,” Dylan Sanders of Roundtable Network shared via a social media post on X.

Losing is one thing, but getting blown out by 21 points at home to a Falcons team that's slightly above average is a very discouraging sign for a Saints team that looked like it was stepping in the right direction.

There's still a lot to figure out in New Orleans, and rightfully so given some of the young players, but it seems some of the hype has died down after an initial feeling that things were going to improve.

Much of that was because of struggles on defense, though the offense wasn't much better in this loss to a decent Falcons team.
