Arsenal youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly produced an impressive display as England thrashed Czechia 3-0 at Wembley on Tuesday, making it three consecutive wins.
Selected to partner Elliot Anderson in midfield following Alex Scott’s injury, Lewis-Skelly seized his opportunity to impress manager Thomas Tuchel.
The ‘special’ 20-year-old completed 53 of 58 passes, with a higher proportion coming in the opposition half as England dominated possession with 64%.
He led all players with three fouls won, three completed dribbles, and six duels won, while only Jarell Quansah managed more carries than his 22.
With Riccardo Calafiori manning the left-back spot and Piero Hincapie providing competition, Lewis-Skelly is primarily viewed as a midfield option for Arsenal.
He has repeatedly demonstrated his quality in that role despite still being in his developmental years.
This should ease Mikel Arteta’s reliance on Declan Rice as Arsenal aim to compete on multiple fronts after tasting domestic success and reaching a European final last season.
Rice would benefit from a reduced workload following a demanding 2025-26 campaign, which concluded with a deep World Cup run in North America.
His withdrawal from the England squad due to a fitness concern gave Lewis-Skelly the opportunity for increased game time, and the youngster certainly boosted his international prospects as a result.
Following the conclusion of the first set of Nations League matches, Lewis-Skelly is set to return to London Colney ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Leeds United on Saturday.
While he could be given a breather this weekend, a start in the subsequent Champions League clash against Lille is more than likely.
