Liverpool are “confident” that star youngster Rio Ngumoha will sign a new contract at the club, following a promising new update regarding his future.

The 18-year-old is one of the most exciting players in the Premier League, bursting onto the scene last season and growing as a footballer all the time, becoming part of England’s senior setup.

There have been worrying recent links regarding Ngumoha sealing a move away from Liverpool, however, with Arsenal rumoured to be “looking” at the winger, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke:

“It’s no surprise that Arsenal are looking at Rio Ngumoha and are interested in him. I’m sure a number of top clubs will be interested in the winger. Bayern Munich were linked in the summer transfer window, but look, Liverpool are pretty relaxed about this whole situation.

“When you get top young players like this, they’re always going to attract interest from other clubs, but Liverpool are confident that his long-term future will be at Anfield.”

Despite this, Football Insider now report that Liverpool are “confident’ that Ngumoha will extend his stay at Anfield, with a general “optimism” from all parties about the situation.

The report claims that the Englishman’s representatives are “keen to strike a deal that reflects his rapid rise and newfound status”, and the Reds want to keep him “well beyond” his current deal, which expires in the summer of 2028.

Rio Ngumoha: Liverpool’s next English superstar?

Compared to the past, Liverpool have a dearth of English talent currently, with their strongest possible starting lineup not including anyone from the country, unless Ngumoha squeezes his way in, which is debatable.

But the winger is a sensational talent who can grow into a world-class player over time, possessing a level of ability that former Reds captain Jamie Redknapp witnessed from a young age when he played in the same age group as his son at Chelsea:

“The potential was obvious, everyone could see it. He had that sort of natural X-Factor – he was at Chelsea at the same sort of time as my younger son and they used to train together in the same group. It was quite staggering to see so quickly. His brother, who played a big part in his career, certainly his development, used to do a lot of one-on-one coaching with him.”

Offering Ngumoha a new deal has to be one of Liverpool’s biggest priorities – losing him to a rival would be a hammer blow – and he appears happy under Andoni Iraola, despite a lack of starts so far this season.

It is always hard to predict how a young star’s future will pan out, but if Ngumoha remains focused and continues to improve his all-round game, he can become a Reds great.

The teenager is certainly aware of his own ability, which is a good thing – in the past, he has spoken about believing he can win the Ballon d’Or one day – and it is going to be fascinating to see him develop as a footballer, hopefully in a Liverpool shirt.
