Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister got 78 minutes for Argentina in a routine friendly win over Benin, rounding off the involvement for Reds stars during this extended international break.

‌

Mac Allister started alongside Rodrigo De Paul and Enzo Fernandez in midfield in what was Lionel Messi's final match with Argentina. Nicolas Otamendi and Nico Paz got on the scoresheet before Inter Miami man Messi netted from the spot, with the Liverpool man completing 95 percent of his passes and quietly impressing in the center.

Elsewhere, forward duo Rio Ngumoha and Victor Munoz both featured from the bench for their nations. England won 3-0 against Czechia at Wembley, while Spain edged out 10-man Croatia 2-1 in Split.

Ngumoha replaced Jude Bellingham on 73 minutes, with Thomas Tuchel spotted hyping him up before he was introduced, while Munoz was on for Lamine Yamal on 78 minutes, just before Ivan Perisic was sent off and Mikel Merino scored the winner.

Ronald Araujo, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Uruguay as it won 6-1 against India.

That might be useful for Liverpool if Jeremy Jacquet is to be sidelined with an injury, as the Barcelona loanee will be leaned on even more heavily.

Trey Nyoni was also left on the bench. He had made the step up to England's U21s set-up, but was not used during a 3-1 defeat to Ireland in which Sheffield United's Sydie Peck was preferred.

Liverpool returns to action against Manchester City this weekend with the Etihad side coming to Anfield for the first time since it was found guilty of the vast majority of the 115 charges leveled at it by the Premier League.

The next international break is in November, with Liverpool also taking on LASK, Brentford, Villarreal, Brighton, Chelsea, Arsenal, Fenerbahce and Crystal Palace before then.

The Reds are sweating on injuries to Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, who both dropped out of playing for their nations earlier in the window.

Jacquet might also be a doubt for the weekend's match with Manchester City after missing France's win over Belgium after feeling something in his hamstring.

No risks were taken with Jacquet, who has made an excellent start to the new season with his new club. Araujo and Joe Gomez would be the obvious picks to replace him alongside Virgil van Dijk should it come to that.

Andoni Iraola will offer a full update on injuries during his pre-match press conference later this week. Liverpool faces three games in seven days upon its return, with two of those away from home.
