There are “no active conversations” taking place about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker signing a new contract, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast, Romano said that the Brazilian international is currently set to leave Anfield when his current deal expires at the end of June:

“Now if they want to continue together, a new contract is needed. There is no option, no extra option in the contract… At the moment, there are no active conversations between Alisson and Liverpool over a new deal.”

Alisson signed from Roma for £66.8m in the summer of 2018, and he has started his ninth season with the Reds.

Will he stay at Liverpool beyond next summer?

The fact that no active talks are taking place would suggest that either Alisson or the club has already decided that they don’t want a contract renewal.

As things stand, the 34-year-old will be able to hold direct discussions with foreign clubs about a transfer within three months.

Where could Alisson go?

The Brazilian international was said to be open to linking up with his former Roma boss, Luciano Spalletti, at Juventus before the start of this season.

Liverpool utlimately decided not to countenance any offers for Alisson, and the keeper was said to be willing to go along with that decision.

However, as he will be available on a free transfer next summer, there is a good chance that Juve will revisit the situation.

Spalletti is not the only former Roma connection. Their technical director, Frederic Massara, played a key role in his move to the Giallorossi when he was sporting director back in 2016.
