Liverpool may not have signed Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr in the summer transfer window, but they may still have an advantage over other clubs.

The Senegal international was linked with a move to Anfield among with other wingers after the departure of Mohamed Salah, having caused the Reds problems down the years.

In the end, it was Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz who Liverpool brought in on the wings from Paris Saint-Germain and Osasuna respectively, with Sarr staying put at Palace.

Speaking to Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown claimed that Sarr could have a clause in a new Eagles contract that allows the Reds to snap him up if they come in:

“It’s going to be interesting to see if we find out the details of that new contract for Sarr. Everybody knows he wanted to join Liverpool during the summer, he was disappointed that the offer was rejected and he’s only recently come back into full training.

“So a couple of weeks later, for him to be close to signing a new contract, I expect there will be some sort of Liverpool clause which could allow that deal to still happen. I’ve seen it happen before, players get clauses put in their contract in case certain teams come in or clubs in certain competitions.

“I think Sarr will want to leave the door open for that move to Liverpool because of how he reacted after it fell through, and I’m sure Palace will be okay with that for the right price.

“It will be a deal that works for everybody, and if Liverpool don’t come back in for him, then Palace will be keeping hold of a player who has done an excellent job for them.”

Should Liverpool go back in for Ismaila Sarr in 2027?

There are positives and negatives to Liverpool signing Sarr in 2027, not least because he has scored seven goals against them in the past, also being hailed by Palace teammate Will Hughes:

“A couple of lads said he’s [Sarr] phenomenal. He’s so underrated. Not only in our team I think, but in football in general. What he produces week in, week out, over a number of years now – It’s been incredible really. I’d say he’s probably one of the first names on the team to shoot for us. He’s such a humble guy and ultimately that’s the main thing. The quality he’s got, it’s brilliant.”

Sarr is proven in the Premier League, so he shouldn’t take time to adjust to his surroundings at Liverpool, even though the step up to one of the world’s biggest clubs is clearly great.

That said, Sarr is now approaching his 29th birthday, so there is the risk that the Reds could sign him when his peak has passed, or he drifts past his best quite soon after arriving.

Ultimately, Liverpool would be wise to look at younger options out wide instead, such as Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, with Sarr a player who needed to come in when he was in his early to mid 20s.
