Michael Olise is becoming a major transfer target for Liverpool, but Real Madrid could have the edge as Bayern Munich face a key decision over the winger’s future.

Liverpool might have identified Michael Olise as a potential candidate for their right wing position, as per latest transfer news. Their interest comes at a point when Olise’s future has become increasingly complex as Bayern Munich works on a new contract. The contract issue might decide if Liverpool’s interest becomes a realistic opportunity. It could also explain why Real Madrid could have an edge.
Liverpool need Michael Olise
Michael Olise makes a lot of sense for Liverpool. The club needs a good right winger following Salah’s departure. Bradley Barcola had arrived from Paris Saint-Germain to solve the problem in attack. However, Barcola is more comfortable playing on the left. Many Liverpool players can also play the frontline but very few offer the same mix of ball control and creativity that Olise brings to the table.
Michael Olise 2026-27 stats for Bayern Munich as per FOTMOB:

DFB-Pokal 1 1 0 6
He is a left footed right winger which can give Liverpool a tactical advantage. Olise can play on the right, cut inside and use his left foot to create chances. This is important for Liverpool as they need someone who could score as well as create chances. Liverpool might be willing to spend a lot on Olise. Liverpool has already shown in the past that they are willing to spend heavily on attacking players. However, money may not be their biggest problem.
Bayern hold the leverage
Bayern Munich do not need to sell Michael Olise. As reported by TEAMtalk, Olise’s contract runs till 2029 and has no release clause. Bayern can therefore control both timing and price of any potential transfer. Liverpool are therefore not dealing with a club that needs to sell quickly.
Bayern also see Olise as an important part of their future. This gives Bayern important negotiating power. As per Transfermarkt, he is estimated to have a market value of €180m. Bayern might demand more than this due to their position currently.
Michael Olise wants Real Madrid
Liverpool can offer Olise an important role. Real Madrid can offer him something he wants. Reports suggest that Olise would consider a move to Spain if he leaves Bayern and would consider Barcelona or Madrid as attractive options. It is also suggested that the 24-year-old has little interest in returning to the Premier League.
Real Madrid are also a natural fit for his profile. He is young, technically gifted and has already established himself at highest stages of football. There is however some good news for Liverpool. Real Madrid had officially denied having made any direct or indirect contact with Olise in June.
Liverpool could offer him something that Madrid cannot. At Real Madrid, he would join a team filled with stars like Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior. He would have to take a back seat in that squad. However, Liverpool would give him a central role in their squad. That could matter more than the glamour of Real Madrid.
Author’s opinion
I think Michael Olise should join Liverpool as there he would get a central role. It is much better than taking a back seat at Real Madrid. The central role at Liverpool could significantly help with his development as a football player. However, his contract with Bayern Munich is a very big concern.
