Igor Matanovic has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal as the Gunners look to add at least one new attacker to their squad.
He plays for Freiburg in the German Bundesliga and is developing into one of the best strikers in the league, which is a reason Arsenal wants to add him to their squad.
The Gunners have some top players in that role, and he will face competition, but it will not be a surprise if they decide to offload Viktor Gyokeres when an offer comes.
Gyokeres facing an uncertain future
The Swede is already struggling to play for them despite his fine form for the Swedish national team, but Arsenal is hopeful he can adjust to their system and score more goals.
One thing we have learnt about Mikel Arteta is that he is not afraid to change players and improve on any role in his team, so the gaffer will not shy away from signing another striker if he believes that he needs to.
Arteta has shown in the past that he is willing to make big decisions when he feels a player is not fitting into his system. Gyokeres’ struggles could open the door for Matanovic to arrive and take on a significant role in the squad.

January move unlikely
However, signing Matanovic in January is almost impossible, and Football Insider claims Freiburg wants him to stay on their team until the end of this campaign.
They do not have any plans to allow him to leave the club, but it has to be at the end of the season, so Arsenal must keep their plans to themselves until then.
The German club is in a strong position and has no reason to sell mid-season. Arsenal will need to be patient and wait for the summer to make their move for the talented striker.
