Mikel Arteta commits future to Arsenal with new long-term agreement

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at the club until June 2030.

The Gunners announced the agreement on Wednesday, securing the future of the manager who ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title last season.

Arteta’s coaching staff have also agreed extensions aligned with the duration of his new contract, with the agreements subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

The Spaniard described committing his future to Arsenal as a “privilege” and believes last season’s success can represent the beginning of a sustained period of achievement.

“This club is unique, its character and the way it makes you feel,” Arteta said. “What is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”

Arteta initially returned to Arsenal as head coach in December 2019 after leaving his role as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.

He won the FA Cup during his first season before overseeing an extensive rebuild which eventually established Arsenal as regular Premier League title challengers.

After three successive second-place finishes, the Gunners finally went one better in 2025/26.

Arsenal finished with 85 points, seven ahead of Manchester City, to claim their 14th English league championship and fourth of the Premier League era.

The triumph also made Arteta the first manager to win the Premier League with a club he had previously represented as a player in the competition.

He was subsequently named Premier League Manager of the Season for the first time.

Arsenal have confirmed Arteta has now overseen 361 matches in all competitions, with his 62.05 per cent win rate the highest achieved by any permanent manager in the club’s history.

Co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke described their relationship with Arteta as “special” and stressed their desire to build on last season’s breakthrough.

Chief executive Richard Garlick was similarly ambitious, saying Arsenal want to create a “winning era” together with their manager.

The new agreement provides long-term stability as Arsenal attempt to turn one championship into a sustained period of success.

Arteta has already become only the seventh manager to lead Arsenal to an English league title, joining a select group that includes Herbert Chapman, George Graham and Arsene Wenger.

Now contracted until 2030, the challenge is to add further major trophies to the transformation he has overseen since returning to north London almost seven years ago.
