Just a few weeks ago, the NFL took heat after San Francisco 49ers All-Pro fullback Kyle Juszczyk was hit with a fine for an “offensive demonstration” following his customary celebration.

The star fullback, who goes by the nickname “Juice” thanks to his last name, generally celebrates a big play by pantomiming cracking open a drink and chugging it. The NFL, however, decided his actions earlier this season were worthy of a nearly $15,000 fine.

The league was openly mocked for its decision, including by Juszczyk’s wife, fashion designer Kristin Juszczyk, who laughed off the $14,926 fine for his “beer chugging” celebration.

Two weeks later, the NFL apparently changed its mind on the polarizing punishment.

After taking a few weeks to listen to the outrage it initially sparked with the decision to fine the 49ers star for his celebration, the NFL reversed course, rescinding the fine.

The league explained the fine was rescinded “because his celebration was simulating drinking a juice box, not a beer….Mr. Juszczyk finally stated that the fine is hypocritical with the amount of Bud Light sponsorships surrounding the NFL.”

With the decision, the NFL open’s Pandora’s box for other players suffering the same punishment as Juszczyk – of which there are plenty. Will the league overturn every fine handed out for a player’s chugging celebration or is this a special exception for a player with a unique nickname?

That’s the question facing the NFL moving forward. For now, it’s good news for Juszczyk’s wallet.
