Why Luis Binks could be the perfect Jarrad Branthwaite alternative for Everton

Everton will soon have to make changes to their pool of defensive options, and Luis Binks has recently been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton have started the new season really well, especially from a defensive standpoint. So far, the team have kept three clean sheets in the Premier League, and two more in the Carabao Cup.

The partnership of Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski has been very effective, and long may that continue.

But there is no denying that Everton will need to sign one or two new faces in 2027, with Tarkowski and Michael Keane both 33 years of age.

And links to Binks should be welcomed.

Everton have had plenty of players represent England, but who is the best and why? 👀

Luis Binks would make a great signing for Everton, there are similarities to Branthwaite

Binks has been with Danish side Brondby since the summer of 2025 and really caught the eye over in Scandinavia.

The central defender was made their new club captain ahead of the 2026/27 season, and has produced a string of solid performances at the back, while also chipping in with four goals and four assists. As a reward for his consistency, Binks got to make his Scotland debut during the international break.

Everton were linked with Binks a couple of weeks ago, and TEAMtalk have referenced the interest in a new report today, although they can’t confirm how concrete it is. But they do say interest in the player is mounting, with Udinese making enquiries. ‘More than one Bundesliga club’ has also asked about his situation.

Binks could potentially make a really handy signing for Everton, and quite possibly a good rotation option for Branthwaite.

He is another left-footer, and is just a tad shorter than the Everton man, standing at 6ft 3in tall.

In the Danish Superligaen, as per Fotmob data, Binks has recorded a passing accuracy of 88%, and actually created an impressive six chances despite being a centre-back. He’s also had a whopping 734 touches, which puts him in the 96th percentile. So he is very much someone who gets involved in build-up.

But defensively Binks is also solid too. He has a 68% success rate when it comes to duels, and his 73 defensive contributions so far place him in the 80th percentile of players in the Superligaen.

Statistically, there actually isn’t a great deal to separate Binks and Branthwaite in terms of their defensive metrics in the league, suggesting that the Scot really could be an ideal alternative to sign in 2027. Ideally he would come as someone to potentially compete with Branthwaite though, and not replace him.

With other clubs already keen though, and Brondby under no pressure to sell, there is a potential here that Binks would not come cheap. That said, Everton will hopefully have a reasonable budget next summer, with centre-back likely to be high on the agenda.
