According to Mundo Deportivo, the redevelopment of FC Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou has reached another important milestone.

The compression ring surrounding the top of the third tier has now been fully closed after the final piece of the huge structure was installed on Monday.

In the last week of September, the ring was almost complete, with only a small section still missing. The original plan was to finish the structure the following week, although weather conditions had to be taken into account.

Those responsible for the construction work had been waiting for temperatures to fall before installing the final section under the right conditions.

Metal structures expand and contract as temperatures change, meaning the steel needed to reach specific thermal conditions before the final assembly could be completed correctly.

The wait is now over. The final piece arrived at the stadium on Monday and was lifted into position, completing the compression ring across all 360 degrees.

The ring will have a fundamental role when the roof installation begins. With the outer ring now closed, the next major stage will be installing the 92 radial steel cables connecting the compression ring to the inner tension ring.

Together, these elements will form the structural framework on which the roof membrane will eventually be installed.

All of this work is preparing the stadium for one of the most important operations of the redevelopment, known as the ‘Big Lift’. This will involve raising the roof structure into position above the stands.

The ‘Big Lift’ scheduled for summer 2027

Barcelona’s current schedule places the major roof lift in the summer of 2027, once the 2026/27 season has finished.

As per the report, the operation is expected to start between June and July 2027 and will represent one of the key moments in the transformation of the stadium.

The operation is expected to last around four months and will allow the roof to be installed over virtually all of the seating areas at the new Spotify Camp Nou. The pitch will be the only area left without protection from the rain.

During that period, Barcelona will return to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys at Montjuic as their temporary home.
