In 12 appearances for Tottenham’s U21 side, he has had a hand in 15 goals – scoring eight – and has also laid on seven assists. The England U19 man is back after an injury, and Chelsea are now prowling.
Spurs fans have reacted to the news on social media and are fuming that there are doubts regarding the teenager’s future. They know how much potential he has, and are desperate not to see him depart.
“If we lose this one, just write the club off”, was the reaction of another Spurs fan. The North London club’s fanbase are concerned at the moment, given Spurs’ desperate start to the Premier League season.
Another fan wrote: “He needs to get game time ASAP so he doesn’t pull a JJ Gabriel”, referring to the Man United teenager who wants out. Indeed, Gabriel has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
“Another talented youngster going. Very frustrating,” was the response to the reports from another fan, while one even claimed: “Don’t you dare let him go to any Premier League club, especially those three.”
Chelsea move makes sense for Luca Barnett-Williams
While Chelsea have a whole host of young players and often bring in new youngsters, Barnett-Williams actually makes sense. The Blues lack cover in the no.10 role behind Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers.
A move to Germany will tempt Barnett-Williams, having watched the likes of Jude Bellingham go to the Bundesliga and kickstart their careers. Jamie Gittens did it too, starring for Dortmund before Chelsea.
But if he wants to remain in London, a move to Chelsea would give him a clearer pathway into the first team. Especially with Xabi Alonso also handing debuts to Reggie Watson and Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli.
