Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are among four Premier League clubs that were reported to receive Manchester City’s guilty verdict early. City were found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges of financial breaches brought against them by the English top flight last week.
The Premier League issued a statement last week confirming that City had been found guilty by an independent three-person commission, but it seems some clubs may have received notice before others.
City have been on record stating their innocence and denying any wrongdoing. The 2023/24 Premier League champions confirmed on Friday that they submitted an appeal before the deadline, and claim to have "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence" that should clear their name.
The wait now continues for the appeal's outcome, which will be overseen by an independent three-person panel, with a ruling anticipated before the end of the year.
The Telegraph have reported that four Premier League clubs were briefed on the verdict before the remainder of the top flight received an email on September 25.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all initiated potential legal proceedings back in 2024, which could see the clubs eligible for compensation should the verdict against City stand following the appeal.

It now remains to be determined what any compensation might involve, with the precise outcome of the case against City also unclear. A range of sanctions have been referenced that could be imposed on City should their appeal prove unsuccessful, including financial penalties, transfer bans, points deductions, titles being removed and expulsion from the Premier League.
City continue to assert their innocence and released a statement last week confirming they had lodged the appeal in response to the verdict.

"Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter," the statement from City read.
"The Club's firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
"The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.
"We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete."
