Reports in Spain are claiming Liverpool is back in talks with Kylian Mbappe amid sensational rumors that the French superstar could leave Real Madrid.
Mbappe is of course no stranger to being linked with the Reds, with the player himself having recently spoken about holding talks with Jurgen Klopp back in 2017 when he was in the process of securing a move away from Monaco, although he would end up making the move to Paris Saint-Germain instead.
The Liverpool connection has followed him since though, and now it’s being suggested that a move to Anfield could be back on the table.
Spanish journalist Francois Gallardo has claimed to Defensa Central that Liverpool has made contact with Mbappe’s mother, Fayza Lamari, in recent weeks, with her son’s future at the Bernabeu being brought into question.
The Spanish giant has not won a domestic trophy since signing Mbappe in 2024, and it’s suggested that the 27-year-old is already eyeing up an exit.
Gallardo claims that several Premier League teams are interested in signing Mbappe, but the player’s priority is Liverpool - perhaps as a result of the interest previously shown by the Reds.

"It was while I was playing in Monaco," Mbappe told The Athletic last month. "I had to take a decision. And yes, I was close to Liverpool. My mum was a big fan of Jurgen Klopp and the favorite destination for my mom was Liverpool. She wanted me to go there.
"I didn’t listen because I wanted to play in my city, Paris. I didn’t want to leave my country before I was someone.
"But yes, my mom was always saying, ‘Liverpool — you’re going to be there, playing at Anfield, it’s going to be insane for you.’ I was like, ‘OK!’
"She went there (for) the first step of the negotiations. She went to the city, the stadium, she met the people. She was like, ‘It’s a wonderful club, everybody’s so kind, it’s a family club, a big club'."

Despite the suggestions that Liverpool may have now revived those talks, Defensa Central goes on to say that Real has “no intention” of selling Mbappe, while it’s suggested that any potential fee would have to reach around $280 million (€250M).
Nevertheless, Gallardo has insisted that Mbappe has decided to leave Madrid next summer, and that Real will not stand in his way as he looks to secure a move to the Premier League.
Liverpool.com says: This just isn’t happening, is it? As big a signing as Mbappe would be, there is no way Liverpool is splashing $280M on a player.
And we’d be more than a little skeptical of those suggestions that he’ll be leaving Madrid next year. He’s under contract at the Bernabeu until 2029, so he’s not leaving for free anytime soon. The Spanish press has left it late in the international break to whip up a frenzy, and there doesn’t seem to be much going for this one.
