Arsenal exploring a move for Italy international who can play on both flanks

Arsenal are monitoring Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso after the Italian impressed the club’s data department.

According to Hand of Arsenal, the Gunners’ initial statistical analysis of the 26-year-old has been positive enough for scouts to attend matches and assess him more closely.

However, the report stresses that Arsenal’s interest remains at an early stage and there is still a considerable distance to go before it develops into a potential transfer.

There is no suggestion Arsenal have contacted Juventus or Cambiaso’s representatives over a move.

The Italian international’s versatility appears to be one of the characteristics attracting Arsenal’s attention.

Cambiaso is naturally comfortable at full-back but has operated on both sides of the pitch and further forward during his Juventus career.

Juventus have previously highlighted his ability to play on the left or right and in both defensive and attacking positions, describing versatility as one of his defining qualities.

That flexibility could make him an interesting option for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has regularly demanded that his defenders perform multiple roles.

Arsenal already possess several versatile options, with Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White and Piero Hincapie capable of covering more than one defensive position.

Cristhian Mosquera and summer signing Ezri Konsa have added further depth to the Premier League champions’ back line.

Any potential pursuit of Cambiaso would therefore appear to be based on identifying another adaptable long-term option rather than addressing an obvious shortage at left-back.

The Italy international joined Juventus from Genoa in 2022 before spending the following campaign on loan at Bologna.

He established himself in Turin after returning in 2023 and reached 100 Juventus appearances during last season’s Champions League victory over Bodo/Glimt.

Juventus said in February that Cambiaso had subsequently reached 119 appearances for the club, contributing seven goals and 16 assists.

His performances have also established him at international level with Italy, where his ability to fill different roles has remained valuable.

Prising Cambiaso away from Turin could prove difficult should Arsenal eventually decide to advance their interest.

Juventus extended his contract until June 2029 in May 2024 and have continued to describe him as an important first-team player.

For now, Arsenal appear to be gathering further information rather than preparing an approach.

The move from data analysis to live scouting nevertheless suggests Cambiaso is a player whose development the Gunners intend to follow closely.
