Everton are back in Premier League action this weekend, and face their second newly promoted side of the season in Hull City.

Before the international break, the Toffees beat Ipswich Town 1-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with James Tarkowski’s strike from distance hitting Thierno Barry and finding the bottom corner.

It was by no means a top performance. But at the moment, performances are not really all that important for Everton, who need to get points on the board with a very small squad.

Hull have made a good start to the new season and currently sit just one place and one point below Everton in the Premier League table – the chance to leapfrog the Toffees will no doubt motivate them this weekend.

But how have Everton fared against Hull in the past? Here are both Everton’s and David Moyes’ record against the Tigers.

Everton’s all-time record vs Hull City

Of course, with Hull having spent years outside the top-flight, there haven’t actually been that many meetings between these two sides.

Indeed, Everton and Hull have played against each other just 24 times to date – and it’s the Toffees who have had the upper hand in terms of the overall head-to-head.

Everton vs Hull head-to-head

Meetings – 24

Everton wins – 11

Draws – 6

Hull wins – 7

Everton have beaten Hull 11 times, there have been six draws, and Hull have been victorious seven times.

The sides last met in 2022 in the FA Cup third round at the MKM Stadium. Everton ran out 3-2 winners that day, needing extra time to get past their Championship opponents.

They got off to a dreadful start, conceding from a set-piece in the first minute, but Demarai Gray equalised and then Andre Gomes made it 2-1. Ryan Longman equalised for Hull to take the game to extra-time, but a stunning strike from Andros Townsend saw Everton through without the need for a penalty shoot-out.

The last Premier League meeting between the two sides came in March 2017, with Everton proving no match for their opponents at Goodison Park, winning 4-0. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Enner Valencia and Romelu Lukaku (brace) were all on target.

David Moyes’ record vs Hull

So Everton have largely got the better of Hull down the years, but what about David Moyes personally?

Evertonians will be buoyed to know that the Scot has a very good record against the Tigers throughout his career. He has come up against Hull eight times to date (five as Everton manager, one for Manchester United and two for Sunderland), and recorded six wins, one draw and one defeat.

Draws – 1

Losses – 1

Goals scored – 23

Goals conceded – 8

Points per match – 2.38

That one 3-2 defeat did come in his first spell at Everton in November 2009. The Toffees were ultimately undone by a poor start that day, conceding three goals in the first 30 minutes of the game. They did pull two back, but ultimately it was too big a mountain to climb.

But the goals have really flowed from Moyes’ teams against Hull. In total across the eight games, the Scot has seen his players score 23 times – almost three per match.
